j.collins Posted October 15, 2009 Report Posted October 15, 2009 (edited) hi guys, excellent forum. i have a few problems concerning the electrical system. 1. brake lights not working (i know there is multiple posts on this) ( i have just spent 4 hrs reading the topics on this,((very informative!)) i replaced brake switch 4 weeks ago, everything worked fine till yesterday now nothing). i have removed the brake switch and pulled it in and out a few times and sprayed wd40 on it) i have checked wires between tailgate and body, some were cracked, i have fixed this.i have checked ground points at rear behind lights. and these are ok. all bulbs are ok. 2. when i turn on headlights my brake lights illuminate inc. eye level light. 3. when driving if i turn on headlights my car loses power for a few seconds then regains power. 4. also drivers side main beam is dim. i think it must be a bad ground or a short circuit but how do i isolate the problem. if a bad ground where are they situated (i know there is one each side behind the rear lights) is there any more. if a short is there a way of telling also all fuses are good any help would be great so thanks in advance p reg 1.9 tdi cl Edited October 15, 2009 by j.collins Quote
chromedome Posted October 15, 2009 Report Posted October 15, 2009 (edited) Remove the brake light bulbs and check that the two elements are not touching. This is quite common and can result in interaction with your other lights. Edited October 15, 2009 by chromedome Quote
